The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society has a great internship opportunity for college students and recent grads looking to gain hands on experience in the field of museum education. The internship may be completed for school credit. Stipend of up to $500 available.
Description: The intern will work a minimum of 120 hours and gain hands on experience in implementing a history-based curriculum to children in 1st through 5th grades. The intern will also help develop a field trip tour manual for the ELMHS museum volunteers as a capstone project.
Must be available to work the following dates and times:
June 10-13: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
June 17-20: 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM
August 19-22: 8:30AM to 4:30 PM
Requirements: The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, creative, and willing to work on a variety of projects, with strong written and oral communication skills.
Must be a current college sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student, or recent graduate with a background in education, history, museum education, theater education, or related field.
Must enjoy working with children.
Must have an interest in interpretation.
Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups of kids
Patience and a positive attitude are essential.
Desired qualifications: One year of experience as an interpreter or in museum education, or one year of experience instructing children in a classroom or large group setting.
Qualified applicants must also be able to pass a background check.
